Something for you.

I have made a small lantern slide out of one of my lino cuts. Well, actually I've made four, and as a sign of my appreciation of you folks I thought I'd give some away. Well, I'll give three away, I'm keeping one.

It's a small image of some very old pewter charms, which would have been worn for luck or as protection. The image is in black on tracing paper so it's nice on a windowsill where the light can get to it.

I'm in bed with flu today and it's making me extra grateful for having the blog, for feeling connected and for getting to see a slice of the planet that I would never have before - through followers and people commenting and through following trails of links through inspiring sites.

So thank you. And if you'd like a special Jo Waterhouse lantern slide you can leave a comment - if three people comment you'll get one each, otherwise I'll devise an elaborate choosing ritual then hunt you down and ask you for your address.
Also, I like to enter blog giveaways (sumfin for nuffin init) but always feel a bit naff about what to say - usually something along the lines of 'mmm . . . nice . . . I'd like to own that'. If you feel this way you can simply let me know your favourite greeting or way of saying goodbye in a comment. I know what my favourite sign off to a conversation is . . .
be lucky!

  2. For years now my children and I have signed off communications, calls and when parting ways, with this phrase: "Angels all around"...a small blessing and a wish for safe keeping. 1. wanted to add..I've been "lurking" on your fantastic blog for ages without commenting which is really a bit rude as i should have "introduced" myself before wading in with a comment when you have a give away!so, "hi, I'm lesley from New Zealand, smoked my last cigarette 5 days ago...." (gone a bit nuts in the process..)
      see ya!

  8. Count me in. I like saying 'ciao' at the end of a phone conversation, I've caught it off my dad. I usually just say it to people I'm fond of, but sometimes it just slips out!

  9. I've got Yorkshire in my bones even though I'm Shoreditch now so I always sign off with "Tara then!" Have lurked for a long time on your endlessly inspiring site but these lovely lovely artefacts have really made me get up from my artefact and make a comment...

  10. Did you know that Alexander Graham Bell used "Ahoy" as his greeting of choice when using the telephone? Mr Burns on The Simpsons still says 'Ahoy' when he answers the phone (that's how old he is!) I like it, it's such a jolly way to greet someone!
I too think your slide is beautiful. I have a few scientific lantern slides - close-ups of cells and bits of sea life etc. I found them in the Junk Shop in Greenwich and I love them!

  11. Hi Jo, I'd love one of your slides too... My other half's from the Orkney islands and he always ends a call to his folks with a loud "Cho", which he supposes is Orcadian for cheerio...

  13. I think your blog is wonderful, and I'm rather embarrassed that I haven't commented to say so before this giveaway came up... but those little prints are just too lovely. I have an old charm bracelet that was my aunt's, which it reminds me of, although of charms in your print, it only shares the boot in common (there is a horse that unfortunately has a broken leg but my favourite charm is a Romany caravan, and the top opens up to reveal a fortune teller with a tiny crystal ball).

    Stay gold Jo,

    Clare

id love a small lantern slide to put on my window of my new flat in chiswick - i'd like to add my twist on a quote from will-i-am (for the record i think hes a tool but this made me laugh)
"all the other {bloggers} got tactics, but I got Tic Tacs, 'cos I'm keepin' it fresh. Holla."
